Biography Continued

After her children were in their late teens and no longer needed as much mom-time, Lee felt the urge to resume her passion for singing. She contacted her old band-mate Mark Parrish. Lee, Mark and Mike Roberts (who played with Mark in the rhythm and blues band "The Hoodoo Cats") began performing as a trio playing cover tunes and original songs. Opportunities started coming Lee's way. She sang and performed in two plays written by singer/songwriter Kimmie Rhodes and actor/playwright Joe Sears. These Productions, "Small Town Girl" and "Hillbilly Heaven", had impressive casts of local and national talent including Joe Ely, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Freddy Powers, Alvin Crow, Mary Ann Price and Many others. She started singing back up for legendary singer/songwriter Freddy Powers and accompanied him at he Col-des-Roches Country Music Festival in Col-des-Roches, Switzerland in June of 2001. Lee's association with Freddy Powers led her to meet Merle Haggard who recorded a string of hits written by Freddy in the 80's.

Freddy still tours and plays with Merle Haggard. At Freddy'' suggestion Merle used Lee for background vocals on his "Motorcycle Cowboy" music video. She appeared in that video as well as Haggard's "If you've got the money honey” music video. In May 2002 she sang back up on several songs at Merle's show in Austin at Stubbs. Lee has done harmonies and vocals for other artists including Alton Rex, Pauline Reese, Sandy McLain, and Steven Doster. She co-wrote the song “Can't Touch Her Anymore” with Steven Doster. That song performed by Doster with back up vocals by Lee and Will Sexton was chosen to be included on the “Texas Guitar Slingers” CD. This CD is a fundraiser for The Texas Council on Family Violence.

Lee's self-titled first CD, “Lee Duffy”, is due out in June of 2002. Preview copies of this CD have garnered rave reviews from all that have heard it. Merle Haggard is quoted as saying, “She is an unusually talented lady, her music is cool”. (To find out what others are saying about this CD please go to the review page.) Lee has 6 songs recorded for her second CD to be titled “You Have To Be Present To Win”. Opportunities continue to come her way, including an upcoming trip to Switzerland in June, a trip to Peru and Galapagos islands with a singer/songwriter group from Austin in Sept., one of the featured artists in the upcoming book “Women in Texas Music”, and the upcoming Kimmie Rhodes/Joe Sears play.
